Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of equippable items like weapons, armor, and trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.
Slots are used to add upgrade components into equipment to gain attribute bonuses and additional effects. Most of these upgrades are slot-restricted but some are universal.
Rerolling
In Diablo 4, a player can roll a new upgrade to an item. This is accomplished through the Level Up mechanic, which suspends the game and displays a list of four randomly selected upgrades. The amount of crests and Flightstones required to upgrade an item varies on the gear's level and the maximum upgrade level is determined by Blizzard. The upgrade to the highest level can be costly especially if you're upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades to items can alter the type of ammunition a weapon uses or damage die size, alter its operative or unwieldy specific weapon property, or alter the hand requirements. Some upgrades can change the appearance of a weapon.
Before you make a decision it is important to take into consideration the cost of upgrading an item. You may prefer to use your gold to upgrade rare items, but don't spend it on standard or magic-tier items. Upgrades to these items can waste precious resources, and you'll quickly discover that rare equipment is superior to them.
If you're not sure whether or not upgrading is worth it, ask your guild members for their advice. You may be able find better upgrades for less money. It's best to upgrade your gear as early as you can because upgrades will become more costly over time. However, if you're unable to afford the upgrade costs it may be better to wait until you're able to. This will help you maximize your potential in the game.
